15.06.2021 - 30.09.2021 | Reflections. Roma in Belgium

Is "poverty", "beggars", "petty crime", or "nothing but trouble", ... also the first things that come to mind when you hear about ‘Roma’? Would you make the same association when describing your neighbour? What if we told you that they are ‘Roma’ too?
‘Reflections. Roma in Belgium' takes you through the eyes of some Roma role models, students and researchers of the AP Hogeschool in order to shatter clichés about these compatriots. Through portraits and interviews you will get a glimpse of the dreams and challenges, the uncertainties and talents of 9 extraordinary people who are proud to be called ‘Roma’. They are part of a very diverse group, because there is no such thing as the ‘Roma’ community or the ‘Roma’.
Do you want to hold up a mirror to yourself just like these students and discover a new world in order to contribute to a different image of ‘Roma’? Let yourself be surprised and inspired this summer by what you and ‘Roma’ have in common.
The exhibition
This temporary exhibition stems from a practice-based scientific research project Social Work at the AP Hogeschool to get a more nuanced view of ‘Roma’. The exhibition was realised thanks to a cooperation between the European Commission, the Federal Public Service for Social Integration and the AP Hogeschool.
